To celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we asked artist @tk.hwang to create a one-of-a-kind piece inspired by a shared love of the sea and its life-giving energy.
“La Mer’s ethos is centered around energy, water, movement and healing,” she says. “In honor of AAPI Heritage Month, I wanted to create an Asian-inspired ocean landscape. The oceans are an integral part of how the world functions, connecting the world’s diverse nations and cultures. I wanted to show the energy that pulses throughout the world and how connected we are through nature.”
In celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we asked artist @tk.hwang to share how exchanges of creative energy influence her artistry.
“I feel energy exchanged when people, cultures and the natural world intersect. They all overlap in informing and shaping my perspective of the world. My creative work can be stronger and meaningful by sharing ideas and being open.”

For @tk.hwang, Mother Nature is a constant creative force and muse. To celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the artist brings to life a serene landscape where sea meets sky.
“A lot of my creative energy comes from paying attention to nature. I love finding a good tree — I find energy from various places, but one of the happiest parts of your day can be seeing a good tree. Or cumulonimbus clouds floating over the ocean. Or mountains at golden hour.”
